KOHLER sold French sanitary ware factory

[24/02/2021]

Feb. 24, 2021 - According to the news from Le Monde, the French valve parts production company Kramer group issued an offer to acquire its French subsidiary Jacob Delafon to the management of KOHLER in the United States on February 5. The Kramer group has 112 employees and has a turnover of 30 million euros in 2019, which increased by 5% to 10% in 2020.

Jacob Delafon was founded in 1889 by Emile Jacob and Maurice Delafon, the same age as the Eiffel Tower. In 2015, Jacob Delafon entered the Chinese market with a high profile. At that time, it was called the largest sanitary ware factory in France. Its production line covers all sanitary products. It is a market leader in Europe with a market share of more than 70%.

In September 2020, Kohler announced that it would sell the French ceramic factory Jacob Delafon and the land due to the decline in the company’s competitiveness in recent years. On December 2, 2020, it launched the PSE employee employment protection program.

If the PSE is successfully signed, the factory will be closed at the end of June 2021 and 150 employees will be laid off. It is reported that the acquisition candidate stated that there is currently no equivalent sanitary ceramic factory in France that can produce satisfactory sanitary ceramic products. If the acquisition invitation can be completed, 91 employees will be retained, so they can still cooperate with KOHLER for 12 to 24 months by purchasing products.

In addition, according to the acquisition candidate's statement: "I hope to return to profitability within three years, otherwise the Jacob Delafon will be changed to a museum." The potential buyer added that he is currently negotiating with a large distributor. The target annual output reaches 150,000 pieces. However, according to French media reports, KOHLER has not yet responded to the specific content of the acquisition. At the same time, there are also reports expressing concerns that KOHLER would rather close the factory than negotiate.
