Sep. 09, 2020 - A few days ago, the annual member meeting of the European ceramic industry association evaluated the achievements of the Italian ceramic industry in 2019 and the impact of the epidemic in the first half of 2020.
Giovanni savorani, President of the Italian ceramic federation, said that more than 350 million euros had been lost in the two-month blockade. He believes that it is almost impossible to predict this year's situation, "because the epidemic is developing rapidly in almost all foreign markets and the time frame is different, it is impossible to estimate the impact of the epidemic on our exports."
In 2019, the overall output value of the Italian ceramic industry (including producers of ceramic tiles, sanitary wares, tableware, refractories, tiles and roof tiles) decreased by 0.7% to 6.52 billion euro, of which the export quota reached 4.87 billion euro.
There are 30 companies in the ceramic sanitary ware industry in Italy, including Civita Castellana in Viterbo province. In 2019, the total output of 4 million pieces and the income of 338.8 million euro were exported, 45% of which were exported, accounting for 152.5 million euro. In 2019, the number of people employed droped to 2672 (71 less than in 2018).
